The surest cure for depression is to cheer someone else up. We learn something best by teaching it. We are loved most when we love someone else.
Isn’t that weird? Wouldn’t you think that healing our own hurts should come first? Wouldn’t some kind of primordial programming tell us to, “watch out for number one”? But it doesn’t work that way in God’s world. No matter how much we pamper and indulge ourselves, it always seems that the really good feelings, the ones that go deep down and make our toes giggle come when we focus on others.
I wonder if Jesus knew that when he told us that the greatest commandment is to love one another? Being Christian really isn’t all that complicated, after all, is it?
Make someone smile every day.
